Important Checklist

If you are considering traveling to Turkiye for cosmetic surgery, you have to make informed decisions beforehand and plan your trip accordingly. Turkiye is one of the most developed nations in Plastic Surgery and has many top notch hospitals. You will be able to find many world class surgeons and medical facilities. You can have great results and a pleasant overall experience if you pay attention to some details while planning your medical trip.

The Surgeon

First and foremost, you have to know your surgeon and check his credentials. You can check if your surgeon is a member of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. Social media adds may be misleading about the specialization and licensure of the surgeon to perform the operation. If you are booking through a third party health tourism agency demand the name of the surgeon who will perform the operation and the name of the hospital.

The Procedure

You have to make an educated decision on the type of surgery you are planning to have. Read about the procedure, alternative methods and possible complications on official websites of Plastic Surgery Associations or Universities. You have to be informed and decide beforehand to avoid any problems. Feel free to ask your plastic surgeon about the details such as the goals of the procedure, alternative methods, possible complications, contraindications, duration of surgery, duration of hospital stay and required duration of your postoperative stay in Turkiye. You may ask you surgeon to e-mail you the consent forms beforehand to make an informed decision.

The Plan

Make a detailed plan involving preoperative preparation, the trip, preoperative consultation, surgery, hospital stay, hotel stay, your trip back home and postoperative precautions and rehabilitation. It is not a good idea to shortcut any steps as patient safety is always the first priority in any medical procedure.

You should provide detailed information about your medical condition, your medications, your allergies or any other conditions during online consultations so that you will not have your surgery cancelled or delayed due to unforeseen conditions.

It is usually not recommended to have surgery right out of the airport. You should come one or two days before surgery to allow your body to adapt especially after a long flight and to have time for a sufficient preoperative consultation. When planning your trip back home keep in mind that it may be harder for you to carry your luggage or to make multiple flight connections. Give yourself enough time to heal before your trip back home.

Get detailed information about your postoperative medications. Learn the do’s and don’ts before you leave. Learn about the time necessary for you to rest back home before going back to work.

Get detailed information on whom to contact in case of an emergency or unwanted results.
